Things To Do In Whitby

Whitby is a waterfront town and offers many attractions and recreational facilities for residents. Some beaches and waterfront attractions in Whitby are Iroquois Beach, Kiwanis Heydenshore Park, The Whitby Yacht Club and Rotary Sunrise Lake Park.  Port Whitby Marina is located on a beautiful natural harbour of Lake Ontario and serves as an ideal destination for relaxing, sailing and other recreational activities. Downtown Whitby’s vintage Victorian-style buildings make for great sightseeing tours.  The Downtown Brooklin, a heritage conservation area, is a treat to the eyes with its remarkable architecture. Lynde House Museum, one of the first houses built in Whitby is a major attraction for tourists and the locals. Some other notable recreational facilities in Whitby are Sky Zone Trampoline Park, Reptilia Whitby, Station Gallery, Landmark Cinemas 24 Whitby and Whitby Courthouse Theatre.  Winters look promising and fun with ski resorts like Ski Dagmar and Ski Lake Ridge that offer skiing, snowboarding or snow tubing.

Whitby has primary and secondary schools run by public and Catholic school boards. Parents can also choose from some well-known private schools in the town. Whitby is home to the Trafalgar Castle School, an internationally known school for women. Durham College has a campus in Whitby and offers higher education. Whitby’s major employers belong to the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and corporate sectors. Some big names that employ a large number of Whitby’s residents are Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), Gerdau Ameristeel, Patheon, McGraw-Hill Ryerson and Lear Corporation. Whitby has a low unemployment rate of 4.9%.

Transit & Connectivity In Whitby

HWY 401 and 407 are accessible within minutes from Whitby and extend to Toronto and other major towns and cities in the GTA. Connecting to the 400 series highways from HWY 401 is seamless. Whitby is also connected to GO Transit from the Whitby GO station. GO Transit connects to Toronto’s Union Station within 53 minutes. Residents of Whitby can also drive to downtown Toronto within the same time.
