Ajax enjoys green spaces, attractions and beaches along its lakefront and long Duffins Creek. The Elevated Boardwalk, Duffins Trail and the Waterfront Trail in the Duffins Creek area are popular spots for residents for activities like walking, running, sightseeing and cycling. At the mouth of Duffins Creek is Rotary Park, which features tall trees, a playground and a beach. The Ajax Waterfront Park is another attraction that features walking trails with sweeping views of Lake Ontario. Other notable green spaces in the town are Duffins Trail System Central, Duffins Trail System Central Ajax and Millers Creek trail. The town offers a number of other recreational facilities like Ajax Skating Club, Ajax Scuba Club, Fox Run Golf Centre and Driving Range, McLean Community Centre and Casino Ajax. The residents of Ajax have access to upscale sports facilities including soccer fields, basketball fields and ice rinks.

Ajax has two school boards running primary and secondary schools in the city. The city also has Catholic schools. For higher education, Durham College’s Whitby campus is accessible a short drive from the town. Ajax’s major employers are in the automotive, aerospace and retail sectors. Many big brands like Paintplas, DuPont and Volkswagen employ residents of Ajax. The city has a low unemployment rate of 5.4%

Transit & Connectivity In Ajax

Durham Region Transit operates public transit services in Ajax. Residents have easy access to HWY 401, the busiest highway in the province, as it runs across the town. Downtown Toronto is a 45-minute drive from Ajax via HWY 401 and Don Valley Parkway. HWY 401 also connects to other major 400 series highways in the region. Ajax also has access to GO transit from the Ajaz GO station, with train service along the east and west corridors of the network. Commuters can make it to downtown Toronto’s Union Station via GO trains in just 35 minutes.
